Below, I provide you with some information, tricks and best lures for wahoo fishing:

Season: Wahoo fishing starts during the summer months when the waters are warmer with smaller specimens, and the larger specimens are obtained at the end of the season, during the months of January and February. During this period, you are more likely to find wahoo in the region.

It is a great attraction for thrill-seeking tourists who can practice their fishing in the different charters that can be found in the marinas of the islands.

Fishing locations: The waters off the Canary Islands offer offshore wahoo fishing opportunities. Anglers tend to target deep water, especially around current confluence points, where they are most likely to be found.

When making passes between 50 and 100 meters deep, it is more likely to get attacks from these fish.

Fishing equipment: For wahoo fishing, we use sturdy fishing rods and reels with heavy duty fishing lines, as these fish can be very fast and strong. The runs can be long, especially if we go with lighter tackle, so it is advisable to have at least 400 to 500 meters of line on our reels.

The lures and baits used are usually brightly colored, the most popular being the octopus with plummet head that we will move between 7 and 10 knots and lures such as the Halco LaserPro 190 that are very effective between 5 and 6.5 knots of speed, or Halco Max if the intention is to fish them at higher speeds of 10 or 11 knots.

The teeth of these fish are like blades, so it is advisable to use a steel terminal to avoid losing the fish and the lure. Here we show you this Halcotackle, which is available in our catalog in different resistances and 2 sizes (25 cms and 50 cms). And be very careful when handling it once caught with its mouth.

Fishing techniques: Wahoo fishing in the Canary Islands is mainly carried out using the trolling technique, which involves dragging lures at a certain speed behind a boat. PETOS are known to follow and attack moving lures at high speed.

They are traditionally fished by professional fishermen, using a spearing technique with a spear, while they are visible on the surface. They are also caught using live bait.

Remember that fishing conditions may vary, so it is advisable to consult with local anglers or fishing guides for up-to-date information on the best places and times to fish for wahoo in the Canary Islands. In addition, it is always important to fish sustainably and respect local fishing laws and regulations.

Safety and precautions.

Finally, remember to have fun safely ! This is an adventure sport. In case you get stuck with a hook or a jig, we leave you a link on how to act. Remember that the type of catches that we can find while trolling in the sea, due to their size and strength, can be dangerous with a lure in the mouth, and when trying to escape they can hook it in our body.

In our website WWW.AZTRADING.ES, we have all kinds of materials for the enjoyment of this type of fishing, lures, lines, rods, clothing, hooks, salabres etc, you can view videos with test, video tutorials with uses of materials, and many more sections that we invite you to discover.
