Season: Wahoo fishing starts during the summer months when the waters are warmer with smaller specimens, and the larger specimens are obtained at the end of the season, during the months of January and February. During this period, you are more likely to find wahoo in the region.
It is a great attraction for thrill-seeking tourists who can practice their fishing in the different charters that can be found in the marinas of the islands.
Fishing locations: The waters off the Canary Islands offer offshore wahoo fishing opportunities. Anglers tend to target deep water, especially around current confluence points, where they are most likely to be found.
When making passes between 50 and 100 meters deep, it is more likely to get attacks from these fish.
Fishing equipment: For wahoo fishing, we use sturdy fishing rods and reels with heavy duty fishing lines, as these fish can be very fast and strong. The runs can be long, especially if we go with lighter tackle, so it is advisable to have at least 400 to 500 meters of line on our reels.
